hotrod work stopped,
Hiyall, work on the hotrod has come to a grinding halt as I've just bought a trailer load ( literally ) of old tools. A mate of a mate had a mate who lives next door to an old couple, he ( the old fella ) is on his last legs and said he wanted to sell his old tools. Well I went round there today and dug around in his shed and basically bought everything. Unfortunately due to his ill health he hasn't used them for a while and they're a bit dirty/rusty. There are Spear & Jackson and Disston saws, Stanley hacksaws, more pliers, screwdrivers ( some old timber handled ones ), files, punches, tinsnips, spanners, punches, levels, drill bits, chisels and bits and pieces that I'll ever need. There is a Stanley plane, two old wooden planes and a Carter plane that I think is a rebate plane. Beautiful old inside and outside calipers, hammers, axes, did I mention the spanners? Garden irrigation fittings,a huge old 9" grinder, a Sher drill, two old black & decker drills, all running well. A huge hand drill, tape measures etc etc. I'm going to keep a few bits for myself, the rest are for sale. I would appreciate any comments on the best way to sell them, would prefer to see woodforum guys get them. Thought I'd clean them up only to the point of identifying brand names. cheers, billy

will do Aussie, I've left a message on the "monday night tool show" thread on the hand powered tools forum. Hopefully the guys that really know their old tools will give me some advice. Not sure if ebay is the right place, although that could get me better prices ( maybe), or if I should list them on the marketplace forum, theres literally hundreds of things to sell. It'll take me all day tomorrow to sort them out, will catalogue and photo them.
cheers, billy

Awesome stuff Billy.
A thought on the Supercharger belt. An old pushbike tyre inner tube. They're already black, they're slightly stretchy, and you can cut them as wide or as narrow as you like, and you'd get almost a lifetime supply from one inner tube!!Too many projects, so little time, even less money! Are you a registered member? finally, a lathe
I had the pleasure of going to Carbatec Auburn today, drooled over everything in the shop, luckily my boss was there to provide emotional support, although I ended up dragging him out of there 'cos he wanted to buy every tool he saw as well.
I bought a Carbatec Economy Mini Lathe, ( MC1018 for those with the catalogue )$319.
I was going to get the economy scroll chuck but the chap there said the quality was rubbish and now they don't stock them. So, bought a 90mm Teknatool G3 key operated chuck ( TK-G3), $169,
and as a starter set I got The HSS 3 piece miniature turning chisel set,(TJ-3),$45.
I've ripped the workshop apart, thrown out, cleaned up and sorted everything. Started making a bench just for the lathe. AND, I just got a Triton planer unit as well (thanks Old Bloke), can't wait to get into those hotrods now, Billy

OK Billy
You are in for it now.
I was feeling a bit strange while I was reading your post.New lathe, new chuck and new tools to suit.
Thought I had better go to the bathroom and have a look at my face.Well It was GREEN, don't know why I would have turned green.Just for no reason really.
Seems odd that I was reading your post at the same time I went green.OH well.
Congrats Billy.I know you have been looking for a lathe for awhile now.Hope you have many happy hours working on itBack To Car Building & All The Sawdust.

not lathing yet
unpacked it, ran it, put it away.
Promised loml I'd finish cleaning up and organising workshop before starting anything new. Also the chuck wasn't in stock so have to wait a few days for it to come in.
Hopefully the table I'm making for the lathe will be finished Tuesday so I can set it up permanently then I'll start on the Toysnjoys bulldozer kit thats been sitting around.
I think if I do this dozer it'll give me more of an idea of how to go about building toys, following plans, getting organised etc.
But I just realised I need to set up the Triton planer unit as well which will be permanently mounted on the Triton thats currently got the router in it. Mmmm, maybe I need another MK3 worktable so the router can be mounted rather than swapping saw/router between one table.
Decisions decisions.
Cheers, Billy

yes , the hotrod. Its been put on hold as I want to finish setting up the workshop properly. Nearly finished lathe table, picking up triton to mount planer on this Sunday. I will then be making a Toysnjoys bulldozer to check out how the machinery is going, then back to the hotrod, cheers, billy
