    Default Stephenson's Rocket

    Hi All,

I am looking at my next project and because I am a railways fan - I was looking at a model of Stephenson's Rocket. I have researched a bit on the web and come up with quite a few photos but cannot find a lot of detail on - the main chasis, how the drive cylinders were secured t the chasis / body and also the details of steam system configuration from the boiler to the cylinders. I will keep researching but if anyone can help with details / plans / links etc., I would be most appreciative. Work on the T Model continues.

    Thanks

    Keith

Sounds great Keith really looking forward to it!
What scale are you thinking of building it at?

I just like the Rocket I have one of the Hornby steam operated models unfortunately the detail of what you would want is not replicated on it, But if you want photo's of it I will take some.

Look forward to your build of it

Thanks - would appreciate anything that could assist, photos of underchasis and steam equipment would be great. Any photos at all.

I as considering 1/5th scale which would make the main drive wheels 285mm diameter and the overall length of the engine 840mm. The tender would be 502mm long. Therefore the overall length of the model would be 1342mm. The height from track to tip of smoke stack would be 922mm. What do you think ? Am I being too ambitious ?
I a bit scared to tell my wife. She wants some work done around the house. I think a project like this could take well in excess of 6 months. Don't know where I will put it on completion.

Quite a bit of planning and scale drawings to do. Hopefully can get more details as discussed. Plus I still need to finish my T Model ute. Probably another 3 weeks to a month on that.

    Thanks for your interest.

Photo's as promised I must confess that the damage to the paint work was my fault for putting it into a window where the sun shone in.

Hope these are of some use

Thanks to everyone who is assisting - most appreciated. I have also contacted the hobby firm in the UK regarding plans as well.

Probably still at last a month away off commencing. I am going to make sure I get as much detail and preparation work done before starting.

    You are all good people.

    Thanks

    Keith
