    Hi All,

I have found that some times the easier looking components tend to be the most time consuming. I have been working on the access step for the luggage racks. These are located at both external ends of the carriage.
I have used 10mm X 3mm aluminium flat as my main material. The step / seat component is made of cut down pine.

I had to make up some fixtures to get the curvature of the supports. These I made out of scrap pine. Getting one done was quite easy, but getting 4 all the same was a bit more testing.

Anyway, one set is now fixed on the carriage. The other set for the other end has been primed and should be ready for painting tomorrow.

    Regards

    Keith

    Hi All,

Been a while since I posted. Been laid up a bit and had a short hospital stay. On the mend now and have got out into the shed. I have finished off my carriage. Was thinking about labelling First and Second Class but decided against it (any thoughts - First Class is the compartment in the middle)

I have put "John" as locomotive driver in this photo (named after a guy at our Bowling Club who looks strikingly similar) I made him out of a GI Joe I got at a flea market and used him on my Trevithick locomotive.

My next step is to build the trackwork and balllast for this loco and carriage. Then need to re-organise my locomotive display area and build new display stands.

    Regards

    Keith

Not good to hear you’ve been unwell Keith, very pleasing to both hear & see you’re up & about enjoying the shed time.
Shed time is the best healer so more time in the shed is my recommendation along with some bowls AND Cathy cuddles
    Cheers Peter

Sorry to hear you have been laid up but good to hear "you are back on the rails".

Looking good and John just adds that bit to it. You could always add a "Sam" to the jump seat, but he might loose his hat and make the model look too tall.
Good luck shunting all the models around.

Hospital? Hospital? I don’t remember any of us giving you permission to take time off to go to hospital?
I hope you are now all OK?

I think it more likely that all of that carriage (all three compartments) was "First Class". After all they were based on the stage coach of the time where "1st Class" was inside, "2nd class" in the box at the back and "3rd class" on the roof.
At the time early 19th century, 3rd class would have been a two axle open top wagon, 2nd class would have had wooden seats and less space per bum, while 1st Class would have allowed for more comfort.

    Hi All,

I am pretty good now - with a good result from my specialist - thanks everyone for their concern and good words.

    Working on the sleepers.

Off on holidays to Hervey Bay at the end of next week - this project won't be finished by then - something to work on when I get home.

    Best Regards

    Keith

What? Your not travelling behind one of the excellent locomotives you have built, nor in your first class compartment. At least you are "working on the sleepers". I guess this means you and Cathie can have some well deserved rest.

Hope you are travelling First Class with some Storm and Cats quilts. Look forward to your return.

Well done. and happy to hear that you're up and about and off to Hervey Bay,

Just remember - "the lord does not deduct from a man's allotted span, time spent fishing!" so don't forget to pack your rod.

I am by no means religious, except for when it comes to this quote, so tight lines Keith. ad don't ask me who wrote that quote. although I may just go and consult Google.

Well we made it safely back from Hervey Bay. Weather was great although the fishing was pretty terrible. We fished a lot off the Urangan pier but there were so many baitfish (herring) around that the fish we were targetting must not have been interested in our live bait (herring). Any way, back home, cleaned up my shed in preparation to complete the rails etc for the Rocket and carriage.

    Regards

    Keith
