Hi All,
It has been slow progress on the carriage.
I have done a total repaint of the carriage after filling the wall retaining countersunk head screws with body filler and re-sanding.
I have given the carriage six coats of paint. Probably a bit of an overkill but i think it tends to blend better with the Rocket locomotive. I have secured the carriage body to the sub frame using 10 woodscrews. I have then blended the subframe and the carriage by filling in the join with body filler and then sanded back. After that I needed to do a bit more of a repaint
I am happy how the "brass" exterior door handles have come up. The "brass" look was done using White Knight Super Gold spray paint (available from Bunnings)
The seats are still not secured inside the carriage - that is my next task along with fitting the linoleum floor covering.
After the internal fit out is complete - I will be fitting the roof. I will be using 3mm MDF for this. I am not sure whether I will get sufficient flex in the MDF to get the curvature or whether I will need to try and do some steaming of the MDF to get the sufficient curvature. After the roof is fitted - then comes the baggage racking and external seat at each end of the carriage.
Regards
Keith

That really turning out so nice, looking like the real thing!!! :2tsup:
Coming along nicely.
With the roof, if using MDF, rather than steaming try cutting notches the length of the roof about 2/3 the thickness and see if you can get the curve. You will have some notches at the ends to fill though.
I am not sure how MDF will react to steaming. It is possible it will get soggy before it bends.
I know you will get a solution, even if it takes more than one try.
Looking good Keith. How long is it end to end including the loco
You can get ply in sheets which is specifically used for bending (Mr Plywood). Another option is to use thin balsa and steam that, it works fairly well or even laminate layers of cardboard with a sealing coat of body filla.
Thanks guys for all the tips - really appreciate them.
Derek - I will get back to you in the morning with an overall length

Keith
With reference to the roof you can buy modellers ply which bends one way quite easy It may mean have two layers to build up to the required thickness.
Thank you Keith that is quite long now have you asked Cathie to build an display room in the garden for the next one:whistling2::whistling2::whistling2:. You could open as a galley and charge admission to pay for it.:hahaha::hahaha::hahaha:. Tell Cathie I am only joking
This is a piece of modellers ply that I found in the shed and as you can see it can be bent to quite a good curve mind you this is only 3/32" thick I did have some even thinner and could bend it close to 1/2" radius. My hand should give a rough idea for scale.

Hi All,
Finished the interior of the carriage.
Seats have now been permanently installed and the flooring fitted.
