You'd hope that whoever takes possession of it after he dies that they look after it well. There is so much we can all learn from those older than us, not just woodworking but in so many other ways.
Saddest part of it is the lost opportunities.
But, given that the bloke could nut this out and still make it at his age I hope he goes on for many years yet.
