Default A Surprise Gift for my Fruit & Veggie man’s off-sider – Hot Rod Ford “C” Cab Flatbed

This is a Surprise Gift for my Fruit & Veggie man’s off-sider – Hot Rod Ford “C” Cab Flatbed

The story goes that Sam has been working at the shop for past two years and every time I take a truck in, to show the owner [my friend Sam] the off-sider Sam starts asking about buying tickets for the community club or how much for this one!

Well with all the world in lockdown over this virus thing I spent the better part of 4 days over the weekend enjoying myself in the shed.

The result is a Hot Rod Ford “C” Cab Flatbed with a lot of peterbilt detailing…

The cabin is old Spotted Gum
    The engine is Red Gum
The bed is pre-coated Merbau Flooring
    The sides are Merbau
The radiator is sliced Merbau Decking
The front & rear bumper bars are Tassie Oak
The front mudguards are Red Gum
The wheels are shop bought [front 2” and rear 2.5”]
    The axle blocks are Merbau
The fuel tanks Camphor Laurel & Australian Red Cedar
The headlights are Tassie Oak with furniture buttons
The seat is Australian Red Cedar
The steering wheel is a timber button on a bamboo skewer
The side steps are Red Gum and Australian Red Cedar
The FORD Logo is courtesy of Alex [Thank you again LBD]

The rear axle pivots to compensate for the front & rear wheel size difference

    About a 25 hour build over the 4 days…

    Dimensions are
    18” [455mm] long
    6.75” [170mm] wide
    7” [180mm] high

The finish is my home made Wipe On Poly [3 coats]
30% Tung Oil, 40% Clear Satin Polyurethane, 30% Mineral Turps.

The gift will be given to Sam tomorrow when I buy my weekends Fruit & Veggies.
I’m sure he will be embarrassed but I know he has a couple of young boys who will love playing with it.

Great job yet again Crowie. Looks like Handee has abandoned you. Maybe he is on holiday?

Really nice thought there Crowie. The builds keep getting better and better.
Maybe Handy is in lockdown Al so probably shouldn't hand the truck over for 14 days.

Well folk the surprise was better than I expected, I still have a smile on my dial.

First he takes a good look at the truck asking who or what is it for!

Then I tell him that I built it for him.

You can’t see the surprise on his face.

    And check out the smile.
