Tiny hinges? And I mean tiny
What is the smallest hing I can get? Half way through a project and I think "wonder where I can get the hinge! To lift the lid on my flying saucer! So kinda need a kid proof solution too! Or maybe a neat wooden solution?
Found these! Tiny Pressed Hinge Cabinet Hardware Jewellery Box Fittings [203P watson] - $1.95 : Watson Brass Fittings, Reproduction Antique Cabinet Hardware
Dumb girl question now! 9mm x 13 mm. Does that mean 9 mm long and 13 mm when opened? These might not be kid proof really. I thin kI need a wooden version of a barrel hinge.anne-maria.

Hey TL,
My interpretation of hinge sizes is when closed, 9mm x 13mm, the pin would be 13mm and the wings would be 9mm each side, I hope that makes it clearer

sometimes it is possible to get existing hinges and cut them down to the size you want and redrill the holes

The first thing I thought of is going to a recycle centre or a charity shop and see if you can get an old jewellery box or clock case or like and use the hinges.

The Hinges.
Hi TL,
What about those round hinges, approx. 15mm long & 3mm. thick, 2 piece.
You just bore 2 Holes, most likely a bit of Super Glue, & your finished.
Is it Mr. Mogo ? of NSW, always has a big Sq. stand at the Melb. WwW Show.
I'm sure he has them, & more than likely Carbi-Tec as well.Regards,
issatree.

You can make your own hinges much smaller than the one in your pic.
I havent got a pic of a finished one,but the one in my pic will give you an idea.Finished width will be 6.5 - 7mm(pin width) and only about 5 mm the other way.Made from the steel case of an old DVD player
I make them larger to give me something to hang onto then finish to sizeBack To Car Building & All The Sawdust.

Hi TL
as far as I can tell there are two standards for quoting hinge sizes:
height by single leaf width, excluding the knuckle.
and
height by open width
go figure why
as for child proof, maybe a strong magnetic catch?regards from Alberta, Canada
