Thanks Knappen, that would be the stuff.
I won't be making the table for at least a month as there is other more important stuff to do sadly.

The timber yard said they won't thickness the timber as it's too hard, hahaha!
Started a quick one, smiley planter box for succulents for my niece-

Oregon, spotted gum and some red(now black) veneer.

Put the base on it last night so it's all done, far from perfect but it's good enough for a planter.
Hair is chives, the rest will be planted out by the recipient.

Well, my forgetfulness messed this up, moved it in to the sun and forgot about it and it rained, a lot!
Seems the Orange Oil just washes off and the timber got fairly soaked so it has been drying for a few days and is now getting a few coats of Estapol.
I'm not really sure what the Orange Oil is any good for, hopefully it works on the tripod, damn vegans!

Just need some new screws and wingnuts, works a lot better than me attempting to sharpen by hand.

My niece told me that I have only made her one wooden toy and I have made three for my nephew so she'd like something wooden for Christmas.
At first she said she'd like a robot but then changed and said she'd like something with Lego so I'm doing a Jeep with timber front and rear seats that will hide Lego mounting plates underneath so jshe can rip the seats out and put in whatever she wants.
This is the closest I have ever gone to drawing a diagram, nothing is to scale.

The overhang at the front and rear will be reduced a bit.

Haven't had a chance to do much but I roughly chopped out a seat, God I wish I had a bandsaw............or could be bothered learning to sharpen a hand saw.

Great work! Your red timber looks to me like river red gum. It is hard and not very kind to tools.

Cheers Jonny.
I have to start the Jeep over, my sleep has been rubbish for a couple of months and it has made simple tasks seem quite difficult. I somehow forgot to sand the pieces for the seat so it fell apart and I chiselled the body in the wrong order so it cracked. I gave up on doing the previous tripod build until I start sleeping properly because I couldn't work out how the lifting mech all worked.
Threw a bucket of water on the neigbour's dog this morning, damn thing wakes me up at all hours. If you own a dog you should have to walk it and play with the thing every day, lazy fatties should trade their dogs in for cats.

Jeep got canned, asked my niece if she'd like an owl money box and she said yes, she also said she doesn't like the planter and the plants are dead, hahaha!
Owl 2.jpg
The body is a laminated stack as always and the body will be drilled with a hole saw to accept the face, it will be suspended in a ring of coloured resin as it is the easiest way to fit it and owls have a coloured ring aroun their face.
The beak is large because it will turn to drop the money in.

Had a bit of an issue and a change of plans(there weren't any plans) so I haven't done much and I ran out of glue laminating the wings so they will be thinner than I had hoped but that's hopefully okay.

Had a bit of an idea for the coin drop mechanism and as luck turned out it is just a piece of scrap from the neck/head. The out of focus(batt going flat) wedge will be fixed to the dowel and will rotate with the beak opening and closing the coin slot, can't get any more simple than that.
The head is still an ugly shape but that is because it needs to be clamped down a few more times and gets damaged each time.
