Thread: First and second toy builds, truck and bobcat

Pretty well done, I had a hard time trying to keep it sorta cartoonish looking and child hold friendly, I really wanted to make a dolphin to scale but hey it's not for me.

Two in a row the right way up, I'm on fire!

Some great bits added since I last posted here right near the beginning Just trying to catch up. Hope you get the rocket working with a switch have you thought of using a magnetic type switch so that when it is lifted off of the base it turns on, should not take much to make one as you are using such a low voltage.

The nosecone switch works fine, it's just a three position rotary encoder, centre position is off and the other two are on.
When it charges it lights up and will charge with the switch in any position, there is a diode in the rocket to stop it discharging through the base station when it is turned off.

A switch on a fin would have been possible if I started with a plan, I seem to forget this stage, it would have been a nice way of doing it. There isn't much room inside the rocket, the first time I put the LEDs in I shorted one colour out, with the next set I was more careful. It goes for around three hours on a charge and you can navigate the house with it, I still have it as I have been busy and lazy and haven't finished the base station.

I'd been too busy to finish this off, been house painting and rather stupidly let the tension off a rollerdoor assist spring which ended up being a day job to fix, hahaha!
Finished the base today and dropped it off.
The blackwood came up quite nice, has a nice golden shimmer in the light.

The base was done with holesaws so there is a touch of tearing on one piece.

Woodwork has been put on the backburner for a while, I have taken up sewing, it looks so simple but it is not.

Can we see some of your work - is it on another thread.

My wife Cathie does quilting and has her work on the quilting thread

Not yet Keith, I haven't sewn since high school so my work thus far is pretty rough, just starting with the basics like pillow cases and tote bags.
I only bought a sewing machine.......and then another sewing machine in hope to make a tent and a couple of bike frame bags so I can knock out a few self sufficient overnight rides.

Did my first lined library bag yesterday and it came out better than I expected, so that was nice.

Ahhh, damn wants pictures button, haha!
This is the only one I have that hasn't been given away, just has a simple seam at the bottom, boxed corners, the lining was a little bit tricky as I hadn't done one before, it has an accidental pleat inside but it still looks quite okay.

I have one for an adult to do this week, doing a 70's looking messenger bag. I scored some bargains at Spotlight last weekend, they were clearing out a lot of fabric at $2LM, I got some waterproof nylon canvas and that's normally $25LM.

Spotlight has got a lot of good stuff that come in handy. If I buy anything - it goes on a Spotlight card

Well, it seems I have some words to eat, making a dolphin for a 1YO and a bag to take it in.

I figured I'd have a go at doing one without any plan or looking at any pictures to see how good my memory is. This one is cedar, cypress and spotted gum, there is also a layer of veneer between the inner and outer pieces.

I don't like this one, had to rush it and it ended up being sub par, tail isn't right and I have a flat spot on one side of the body. Don't have time to make another and I guess a one year old shouldn't mind too much. I also whipped up a smaller version of the lined bag to put the dolphin in but with a purple liner.
