Bought the 38th issue three years ago from Timbecon. Address and phone numbers same as Allen's post.
Bought a plan and it was OK.

I seem to have seen their catalog just a couple of months ago at Bunnings... the stand they have all the magazines, books and free publications. Since the word catalog is printed big on top ( I'm a catalog junkie) I had to have a browse through and it had all those toys and things, no price on the outside so took it to the cash register.... it was expensive! So I decided to leave it there.
Most of the pictures you can find on line for free anyway and chances of me actually buying a pattern are slim.... I always look online and in the library first.
Just a matter of finding the right words to type into their on-line catalog and you'd be suprised how many free patterns for woodworking one can find there! And you can do it all from your computer.... don't have to go down there to browse... best of all... if you see something you want to have a closer look at put it on reserve. When it's in they'll call you and all you have to do is pick the books up.... can't be more convenient and quicker then that.

My thanks to all for the wonderful posts on this thread, informative and inspiring.
I am old now, bent, in some pain, missing the farm and with only a tiny work-shop, sorry to be self-centred!, so thinking about making something is a large part of the fun.
Shall try to knock up some of what I have seen here, some of the simpler things!
Thanks to all again.

Good luck with it all...
If you want something really simple to start off with try a very simple pull along toy.... good for little kids as it will still be on its wheels which ever way it lands. Can make the wheels with a hole saw.
For slightly older kids, attach simple cut outs of animals etc.
eg elephant

Here's a couple toy ideas. The duck and the helicopter are made from patterns that were found in a Better Homes & Gardens magazine. I'm told that they are both popular with the tin lid that owns them. I still have the patterns if anyone is interested.

Spinning Tops
Here are a couple kinds of tops that I make. I'm a full time woodturner and wish I could afford to give them all away, but I have pretty reasonable prices. It's a great feeling when kids buy them with their pocket money.
Cheers!

Sundowner..... good job... glad to see Aschi's plans come to live. I'm not a vehicle builder.... I'm more into puzzles and other toys tho I haven't made one of those cars..... yet.....
David..... one can never have too many tops! ( even tho they do hurt when you step on them!!!!! lol) Is one of yours the one that turns itself upside down ? I've only seen them once.... they had a ball shape and I read that they were hard to make?
