My new toy for toy making
Bought this last week from Hare and Forbes $198 Great bobbin sander for those toys or models. I know this machine has been mentioned in passing in the toy section recently but thought it worth another mention I have used it already, as you can see from the sawdust.
I no longer have to use those little dowels I made with sand paper glued to them and put them in my drill press. YIPEE!
Just thought I would casually mention my latest new toy.Reality is no background music.
Cheers John

Congratulations John- I would say I use mine as much ,if not more than any machine I have.
Scotty I know what you mean about your drums, but as soon as you try one of these bobbin sanders, you wont be able to get to the store to buy one quick enough.
It is all to do with the drum going up and down at the same time it rotates.
They are nearly a gift at under $200..
I think H&F must have sold 1/2 doz of these after people have seen mine in action.
Mine is actually badged Triton and orange, but exactly the same machine
No connection at all to H&F
While I am here I must say that in the sanding line, another tool that is great is my Woodfast 305mm disc sander .The disc is cast iron aa well as the outer casting.Plenty of power and best of all is the table.Fully adustable from one end and acurate.I can take it from 45% back to 90 deg. and back in seconds and rely on it being acurate. Not like the previous disc sander I had.The table could not be set and hold 90 deg for long and had to fool around each time I moved it etc.
A bit dearer than some but good Weighs 36kg -also ask for a velcro kit.Makes changing discs easier as with all sanders. These are available from most suppliers- I think.I got mine from Jim Carroll at Drysdale. No Connection
H&F have them as well https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/Pr...tockCode=L1335Back To Car Building & All The Sawdust.

well for that price you couldn't go wrong, do you reckon it could use a bigger table or would that be a pain in the bum, I reckon I'll order one myself when I get back from honkidays

Never crossed my mind about table size really. It is fine for what I do.I would think as long as you canhandle the timber you will be OK.
I forgot to mention that it has a good cast iron top and can be bolted down.
mine isnt bolted down and it doesn't move at all when I use itBack To Car Building & All The Sawdust.

yep after I posted that I thought back to my toy making days and remembered the pieces were mostly small so the table would be fine, I must start again as the grandkids are at that age now, the other toys were for my kids, eldest is now thirty (with two of his own) and he has handed the toys down to his kids, not bad for a bit of "scrap" and a little bit of patience, cant get that quality from the shops nowadays, thanks for the heads up on that unit, i reckon I'll get on the blower and get one sent in!

Bit hard to get into The Mayor's shed because of bulldogs and cats!!
Saw the new toy today. Want one!!!
BTW John is becoming a proficient toy maker, He'd do even better if people like me didn't interrupt his work.
