No its just a free piece of timber to keep the wheel away from the jaws.sandwiched tight between the wheel and the back of the chuck, you have to make the spacer a bit smaller in diameter than the actual wheel otherwise the jaws wont grip the wheel tight enough. If you look at the 2nd picture in my last post of the WIP you will see the spacer still in the chuck.

I'll keep the secret John but it is going to cost you

John excellent WiP on wheels there is only one quicker way to rough cut them and thats use a holesaw without centre drill or small drill bit to suit.

I look forward to seeing the end result also

75mm.Wheels;- 100mm. Wheels, would all be OK using this system,- Can someone please come up with an easy way to make realistic looking 50mm. diameter truck wheels, as I use hundreds of them which I currently make using a 50mm.ID Hole saw on the pedestal drill. I do know one can buy imported 50mm.dia wooden wheels, which work out quite expensive when one is making, & selling heaps of, " Big Rigs," with trailers set to 1:20 scale so everything is balanced, & looks realistic,- therefore making the 50mm. dia wooden wheels becomes a time-consuming all day job !!!

    Default Aussie wheels

Ha Hah.. I have seen what the wheels are going on, and it will certainly be worth the wait.......

Is it wheels you want Roger? it just so happens that me and my trusty router mate can make wheels in any size and quantity. I have attached a link so you can see some of the wheels that I have for sale. If you want a different size let me know.

I have had a lot of people ask me for wheels, I think people get a bit tired of making them after the first 50 or so.

Roger (or anyone else for that matter) if you wish to buy more than the standard pack sizes ie a bulk purchase, contact me for a mates price. Just the other day one bloke came around and bought 200 of the truck and trailer wheels...
