What a rude awakening on our first morning in London
What a rude awakening on our first morning in London!!
The sun rose at 3.30-4am and I'd forgot to close the curtains, though it was a beautiful sunrise....
And the reward for today was the first stop on our UK bus tour at Stanford; I found a hardware store which has been owned and operated by the one family for over 80 years....
I only got 10mins to look around, didn't get upstairs either....but what a joy to still see an old fashion hardware store......

Then from Leeds to Edinburgh
Then from Leeds to Edinburgh.....
While they city authorities have tried, Leeds was a dirty city, the left over of its manufacturing days...
We stopped at Hadrian's Wall for a history lesson & photos....

While you were in London did you go onboard HMS Belfast? I'd have thought she'd appeal to an ex-Stoker..!

Alas but no, we did walk past her...
We had only 2.5days in London at the end of the UK bus tour to see as much as we could as well as catch our breath ready for the Gymnastics Festival in Helsinki....maybe next time...
We did however visit the Royal Yacht Britannia in Edinburgh whilst there...what a vessel!!

Thanks Keith,
Good to hear you are home safe from your trip to the warm north.
We are about 20-25mins down the hill away from the fires at Wentworth Falls so all good here.
The photos of the trains were followed up with you in mind though I too wish we'd had long to also see the museum.
Cheers, Peter

We continued on into Edinburgh...
We continued on into Edinburgh after a long day in the bus; managed to snap this long railway viaduct out the window.
Often there would be some beautiful scenery and by the time you'd snapped a photo, it had gone or worse the window glass reflection in the photo....
The hotel was on the outskirts....but we were treated to a Scottish evening......the music [personally I love the bagpipes] & dancing were great, mixed with a good dose of humour which kept us laughing the whole way through the entertainment, but the best was the haggis, it's good tucker [I ate the girls portions & had seconds]....

Edinburgh with a local guided bus tour
Edinburgh with a local guided bus tour [and today was our turn for a front seat]...
The gent was great, full of Scottish history and local knowledge all around the city and onto the Castle.....
The explanation the local guide gave into the history of Edinburgh at the turn of the previous century gave me a real insite into why my grandfather had left Scotland and come to Australia.
Oh, While we were in Edinburgh, so was the Queen; yes, both at Windsor Castle and now here, but alas no invite for us to afternoon tea while the Queen handed out "honours"....
