    Default First go at toys

I bought David Wakefield’s excellent Animated Toys book some time ago.
Not wanting to travel at the moment, I thought I’d have a go and test out the Aldi Bandsaw.

Hippo is Merbau and Tas Oak, Frog is Meranti and Tallowwood with an olive wash coat. Both shellac finished. Made from what I had lying about.

Big thanks to “Wooden Bits and Bobs” for great service with the wheels, axles etc.

    I hardly use a rasp.
I mainly use my bobbin sander.

And YES Toymaking is the bomb!!

Thanks Crowie. I bought a selection of bobbin sanders that go in the drill press as I have no bench space for a proper oscillating bobbin sander.
Some of the areas needing a “tickle up” are quite small and very angular so a small file/rasp would seem to fit the bill

For those small teeth hard to get at places I have a small linisher sander from Trent Timbers at last years Wood Show

I also have a set of sanding drums that I put in the drill press an idea for those will be to make a false table to fit on the drill press table this is an enclosed box with a hole the size of the drum sander that means you can raise the table and use all of the sandpaper if you also drill a hole on one end of the box so the nozzle of the shop vac fits it will take away the dust.

I made inserts for mine so it could take all 4 of the ones I have

I also use it to thickness very thin pieces I have just managed to get a piece down to under 1/16" for another project I am working on.

For small detail I use a set of diamond needle files.

Nice work on the animated toys. The kids love toys that have other moving parts besides the wheels.
Those little belt/disc sanders are very useful. I have a cheap one but it does everything I need it to. So light I can pick it up with one hand and put it on the bench ready for use.

It must be very small - can we get a photo of it next to something, such as your hand, to get a scale?

Is that disk really just 125mm! Cute.
