Default Toys & Joys pattern 150 diesel locomotive

Hi. Just wondering if anyone has made this pattern? I am wanting to know how to cut the straight lines and squares on the side of the train? Any help would be appreciated.

i’m not familiar with that plan, but i make kerf lines for car and truck doors by making a pattern 1/8 inch outside the line and use a router with a1/16 inch bit and a guide bush (the distance from my guide bush to the centre of my bit is 1/8inch)

    regards david

someone asked for photos explaining that so i will try to do that .. i have taken the photos this morning using flash so they may not be best quality, also the truck is on a high shelf in my shed so the angle of that photo is a bit odd

four photos to be included show the truck door, the pattern both back and front and the router with guide bush and router bit

i use the pattern on a larger piece of timber BEFORE i cut the door out ... the two guides on the back are on with double sided tape and get moved to the other side to do the opposite door ... i also double side tape the pattern to the timber and hold them on a vacuum clamp to do the routing the pattern is marked so i can align the pattern to where i want on the door blank .. the router bit is a standard carbitool bit bought 40 or so years ago and is 1/16inch diameter

G'Day and welcome Barry to the wonderful of toymaking!
Their are a few top blokes here on the forum all to willing to assist and share their "know how".
On the "kerf" question; I've only done a little of it in detailing.
I've used the "mini tablesaw" with it's thin kerf blade but also I've used a small "Vee Profile" carving chisel.
The only trick with the chisel is putting a cut with a "scoring knife" first if you are going across the grain [learnt that one the hard way].
Love to see the photos of your handiwork please sir, Cheers crowie

wow .. that's a lot more lines than a door frame BUT they are straight ... for that i would use my dremel with a "router base" attachment and just double side tape a straight edge to the blank ... i would have to see the plan in detail but i imagine i would do the lines in an oversize blank BEFORE i cut the piece to size

G’day again Barry, Just a thought!
If the lines are all straight or vertical,
you could just rip some colour contrasting timber very thinly.
Then using a good quality CA like “Starbond” to glue it in place.
It’d just as fiddly as kerfing the timber but the raised bead would add a unique detail.
    Cheers crowie

If you are talking about the lines as in Crowies picture I made a half track see picture below and I used a router with a small bit from a dollshouse router set by Trend the link shows the individual cutters
