This build has been on hold as the bits that were sent are the wrong ones so had to return these I have now received the correct sized bits so I can get the grill sorted which I need to position some of the other parts.

Took this picture today as a reminder of the parts I have waiting for the completion of the grill. Will have to start thinking about the wheels soon so more jigs to be made

The milling cutters turned up and I was able to get the grill slots done and the inserts in place, this was followed by shaping and glueing to the chassis

I was able to now start to assemble some of the parts that I had already made into place followed by the engine canopy

Also, the seat now assembled and only resting in place until later in the build trying to keep any fragile pieces and those that stick out until right near the end prior to finishing

At least it is now starting to resemble a tractor even without any wheels

I took a break from the models for a couple of days to do some turning which I managed to do, then things got put to one side as my 96-year-old mother was taken into hospital after a small fall but managed to break one of the bones in the hip area so as you can imagine workshop time was the last thing on my mind.

Anyway, she is still in hospital but doing OK. I have since managed some workshop time on the tractor again over the last few days.

I have managed to cut quite a few parts out but not yet fitted them as they are items that are easily broken. As can be seen some parts have been added which now makes it look even more tractor-like.

Putting the main body to one side I started on the wheels the front ones are turned to size and the treads turned in as well just need to turn some detail on both sides. I also turned the support for these which I forgot to take a photo, note two extra small front wheels just in case.

    20200725_172641 (1024x768).jpg20200726_100458 (768x1024).jpg

I also turned the main rear wheels blanks as well as a quick jig to cut the slots for the treads

    20200725_172637 (1024x768).jpg20200727_120402 (1024x768).jpg20200727_120440 (1024x768).jpg

I use a program on the net which enables you to print out a circle of any size and with as many divisions as you require. These are stuck on the rear of the blanks with photo mounting spray as I find this ideal and can be removed very easy one you need to remove the templates

    20200726_165717 (768x1024).jpg

The two wheels with all the slots cut ready for the treads. I have also cut and sized some wood for the treads as well which will be needed later after the centres are removed from the tyres and a contrasting centre turned and fitted. so still a little to do but the end is in sight.

More work on the wheels cut out the centres and routed them, I also cut out and drilled the hub centres

    20200729_181531 (768x1024).jpg20200729_181537 (768x1024).jpg

I made a jam chuck to hold the wheel outers so that I could cut a recess for the hub centre to fit this had to be done to all four halves of the outers but only to half the depth.

Cut and glued in 80 treads as well as sand them once dried plenty of dust the back and front I did on the sanding sheet stuck to a board but to do the final shape of the treads I put them on the lathe and sanded them this speeded things up rather than have to sand every one by hand, it also helped keeping them all the same size.

This is just a dry fit so far 86 pieces up to this stage still have more pieces to make for them before final glue up and finishing

I completed the rear wheels and thought I would do a dry fit of these and place the front wheels roughly in position. Then the clanger hit me.

I still have the front wheels to completely turn to add some shape to them, then the steering wheel needs making I remember how long it took me to make the one for the half-track

So today was a day of sorting out the clanger even if it only took 1 hour to rectify. I will post how I rectified the clanger tomorrow

The small box has a number of parts to add to the tractor I will be leaving them until the end as they are items that can easily be broken

Unfortunately can't see your attachments Derek.

With regards to clangers - I always view them as "Opportunity for Improvement"

Keep up your good work and Keep Safe

How I sorted the muck up. note to self pay more attention even my teachers at school said that

Using the jam chuck after enlarging the centre to allow for the added tread to hold the wheel. This is the wheel after it was corrected just set this up so you can see how I did it. I then turned the spacer and the small triangle off and sanded to a smooth finish, it was just a case of remake those and glue back on the correct side. time 1 hour.

    20200803_121917 (768x1024).jpg

    That looks better

    20200803_122538 (1024x768).jpg

I hot melt glued a piece of walnut to a round waste block and started to form the steering wheel.

    20200803_150348 (768x1024).jpg

The steering wheel was turned one side then removed and turned around to do the decond side and this is what I am left with still some more work to do to it before it really looks like a steering wheel

Some more work on the steering wheel I am making this different to how the plans suggest.

The outer rim turned both front and back as well as dished out both sides

    20200803_171356 (1024x768).jpg

Using a burr on my flexi drive tool I roughed out as much as I could

    20200804_131449 (1024x821).jpg

Then the hand filing with needle files begins

    20200804_135413 (1024x768).jpg

The wheel complete after plenty of filing and sanding

Except for the axle pins for the front wheels I have now made all of the parts for the tractor.

Today I finished the front wheels which I remade the picture is of them yesterday halfway through turning them I was just about to attach them to the lathe using hot glue when both of my glue guns gave up the ghost one just packed up and the second the trigger broke so at 3pm I quickly ordered a new Bosch glue gun and it arrived this morning now that is service and they did not charge any Postage or packing.

Anyway wheels complete ready to be fitted I also fitted all of the small pieces so that tomorrow I can apply the finish to all the parts then attach the wheels.

I should have some phots of the complete tractor very soon
