    Default Ammer Gandad

No not a miss-spelt title but how the little lad would say it(yes the one in the video I posted in another thread). He keeps nicking mine and as he was here today for a good part of it I could not work on the money box model T. So while he was out of the shed I knocked up this little hammer. Also in the picture is a train whistle I was making but it looked so much like the glue bottle and he kept using it as one, so I glued the top on and now he uses it as such(maybe a better choice than the whistle)

The second picture is just for size reference

Looks like I could be making a few more tools.

Dalby, nice job, I bet was chuffed with it, what wood have you used as I would like to do something similar for my own boy and make myself new one as well but a bit more stronger as the shop ones keep breaking in my hands lol.
Nearly 50 years of age and still dont know my own strength. gets bit annoying when tools break on me

For the toy one I used Ash for the head and Beech for the handle as these are less likely to splinter. The commercially made mallets are normally all made of Beech here for carving mallets I have made one from Lignum Vitae for the head and chestnut for the handle.

How far do you recess the handle in to the head then and do you just use normal wood glue ? that going to be my next project on the lathe for sure.
Are you familiar with western Australian Jarrah timber, this also is a hard wood very much the same the timber mentioned.
I might try this timber and see if it works.

Nice one Derek. Wish I had the time to suddenly change direction and whip something else up on the spot.
Thought I would try out the new emotion on your post.

Thank you Dallas, the mallet took less than 1/2 hour from picking the wood to complete with a finish on it(you know how fast some of the finishes in woodturning can dry)

I also noticed the extra bits at the bottom

    Thank you Peter.

Anyway the woodworking tool kit is expanding slowly made the plane and square today. Work time under an hour waiting for glue and finish to dry forever
