Thanks - that is fantastic Derek. He sure loves mallets and hammers.
It's great having the kids in the shed whilst working.
(You don't look old enough to be a great grandfather)
Thanks for sharing with us all:2tsup:
Take Care

G'Day Derek, I have a smile from ear to ear listening to your English Gentleman voice again and watching you & your beautiful grandson in the shed; working/playing together ....
HOW EXCELLENT ARE GRANDDAD'S AND THERE GRANDCHILDREN..... THANK YOU, DEREK... Cheers, Peter
Thank you guys it is great fun having him there but it does limit what I can get on with, like this money box so I was making a quick mould to cast some more polyester pen blanks as Peter knows.
Anyway it does not look like I have made much progress today. I started by measuring and marking all the places for the door pivot pins then drilling once happy. Next I have now started the glue up of the door stop to the inside floor followed by the first side to the floor, as you can see I use a square clamped to this to aid getting it all square. while I was glueing I did the seat ready to fit in when I get there. I came into the house and worked on a number dial for the very simple locking system that I have come up with.
Door stop glued into place also see the pivot holes for the doors

Looking grand Derek,
I reckon it is going to be a fabulous money box:2tsup:

Coming along nicely. Is that a metric clock you are making?
With all the time I have spent in the shed today nothing looks like it has been done.
I started with glueing the paper dials to some thin modellers ply
Attachment 365440
While they are drying I glued most of the truck together sorry no photo.
I found that some axle pins that I had brought and ordered wrong where the ideal size for the lock mechanism so had to enlarge the holes in the door, I drilled them so they are a tight fit so had to use a file so that they would rotate in the holes but at the same time have a little resistance. The next size drill would have made them just a little loose for how I wanted
Attachment 365441
By this time the glue had dried enough for me to drill them out to take the axle pins as can be seen in the photo, Once I have cut the dials out and stuck the pin into it should look something like the dials on a safe.
Attachment 365442Attachment 365443
I took the opportunity to glue up three pieces of thin ply for the inside part of the lock
Attachment 365444
So as you can see very little achieved and most of that is waiting for glue to dry
Looking good Derek
Carrying on with the locking system I cut the piece of laminated ply into 2 rough disks and drilled a hole in the centre slide this over a odd wheel axle I had laying around and held that in the drill press chuck and sanded it nice and round, these will become the locking discs inside the truck.
Attachment 365530
The numbered discs I had glued onto 2 axles yesterday and also sprayed with varnish I fitted into the door
Attachment 365535
Turning to the inside the two discs that I made had one edge cut off to create a flat that was just short of the door edge are pushed onto the axle,
Attachment 365532
By setting the two dials on zero the doors can be opened but as you can see in the second photo by rotating them by only 1 number and the door will not open
Attachment 365533Attachment 365534
By having a test fit I found the flat edge of the disc hit the second door so had to give both discs a slight chamfer, the axles still caught the door but not to worry as when I have selected the two numbers that will open the door and glued every thing in place I will trim them. I am pretty happy with the locking system as I must confess that I made it up as I was going along maybe that is why it has taken so long for what is a simple lock.
Attachment 365536Attachment 365538
Another photo of the inside of both doors showing how the other door will be held closed, being a money box I could have glued one door in the shut position but by doing it this way the truck can be played with
Attachment 365539
The outside view of the doors not sure yet on handles any ideas
Attachment 365537
Some general views of the glue up progress the first one is the engine block and bumpers being held in place and the last three are of the axles being glued in place

Really clever work there Derek. Looking Spectacular !!!:2tsup:

Thank you Keith not so much clever more time consuming.
Silly things done today I did not have any headlights so had to make my own on my lathe, I nearly finished the second one and got a catch.
Did not have any wood the same so had to remake the pair. Luckily it only took 15minutes to remake them. Drilled into the side of them and also the engine block where they will fit. Glued in and left to dry. Also have made a steering wheel and fitted that.
Once everything was dry I gave everywhere that no glue was going to be applied a coat of sander sealer.
Hopefully tomorrow I will cut the coin slot and do all the final glue up except the wheel, also get the doors varnished so I can glue all the locking mechanism in place that way it will not all gum up
So here are a few photo's of where I am at.
