    Default Truck & Trailer Combination

    G'Day All,
I final got my purchase from Amazon UK; a Norm Marshall toy book.
I'd seen a few "Construction Crew" toys that some blokes had done so thought I'd give it a go.
I just used a selection of timber I had in my woodshop [hardwood & softwood].
I made my first big mistake trying to convert the imperial sizes in the book plans to metric
and thus have had to remake & or modify parts on the go.
I was also a bit frustrated with the current supply of dowel and finding the correct drill to use to have the desired fit.
After all the hassle of remaking & modifying parts I then when and added a few extra bits to personalize the Truck & Trailer as you can see in the photos.
I've put 3 coats on "tung oil" on it as a finish and I think it's come up okay.
Apologies for not doing any WIP photos, I forgot in the over 20 plus hours it took to make the toy.
Appreciate any feed back to help improve my skills for the next project, thank you.
    Cheers, Crowie

    Good one Crowie.
It's Interesting that Aus. plans come in metric, U.S. plans in imperial (or English measure as they like to call it) and U.K. plans come with both and a warning to stick with the one you choose as they are not exact and you can not change from one to the other as you go. I usually work in what the plans use. I was lucky with my racer the only measures I needed was the thickness of the timber and wheel diameter.
Of course the fun starts with your router cutters and dowels etc.
    Regards
    Hugh

    G'Day Duke,
    The plans were in a USA book and imperial;
I mucked up converting them to metric as I started the project.
BIG MISTAKE - I learned that if the plans are in imperial that's what I've got to cut every parts to!

Good job Crowie looks great, dont worry things always go wrong even to plan. All you can do is try to improve on the model add a bit more detail to them. How to improve making things depends on what you have at your disposal youll pickup better ways as you keep building. Keep up the good work.

I like your craftsmanship too. As for the headache of converting imperial to metric, and visa-versa,- been there, done that,- and stuffed-up too along the way !!!!!
Bought several American plans from a company called Meisel Hardware Specialties, who sell Woodworking Plans several years ago, and attempted to convert the imperial measurements metric,- with dire results !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    You can guess the rest,-
    Roger.

Thanks Gents All, for the encouragement and complements.
I enjoyed the project so much I've started another
and hope not to make the same mistakes as the first.
I’ve used an old oregon post to make the cab on this one,
so much easier on the saw than the laminated merbau/meranti post.
My grandson's will properly receive "mark 2".
    Cheers, Crowie
