Locks wooden
Hi Robson Valley
I think I can see where your coming from and my understanding of your post is that if you used the lock on a box or some such thing you would not present the lock to its best advantage ascetically wise But the thing with these locks are they are quite large even though they work they are mainly for a novelty purpose although you can make them smaller or bigger but I think at the start I would make them as per plan to get my skill level up to speed on the projects
am going in the right direction here if not please tell us again. do you have the books

wooden locks
I am the guy with the website showing almost all the wooden locks I made from both of the 2 books. My web site also shows pictures of all kinds of woodworking projects including everything from mechanical wood models, whirligigs, and toys, furniture, and other things.
Thanks

. . . . use either hickory or ash for the springs. . . . "
These two species are dramatically ring porous: each spring there's a layer of vessels which differentiates, followed by summer wood which is all thick-walled fiber.
The elastic properties of this sort of anatomy are excellent in this application.
Black ash (Fraxinus nigra) was and still is staved and delaminated by natives in eastern north america then woven into baskets of all sorts of sizes. You can stand on the big ones.

Hi Robson Valley
Thanks for that information
The Australian climate I think is different from Canada and we do not grow those timbers however I am sure I can buy them from a specialized timber merchant. Have you made any wooden locks ! you should check out Dales sight

Looking for tim detweilers 2nd book 'making more wooden locks'
Looking for the 2nd book of Tim Detweilers 'Making More Wooden Locks'. This is crazy that people are selling it anywhere from $150 to $800! The nearest library that has it is 100 miles away and I can not even find it on a download site! UGH! My Dad really wants it, I had bought Tim's first book a couple of years ago. I have emailed the publisher, Linden, and am awaiting a reply.Hoping someone out there can help me. My email address is [email protected]
Thank you in advance!!!!!
