Default Wooden Reindeer from a Rudolph the red nosed reindeer template...

Wooden Reindeer from a Rudolph the red nosed reindeer template...

A friend asked me if I'd remake a Rein Deer for his mate, he had the original to use as a template....

I said YES but when I collected the original the request became three [3] please....oh well the bloke was prepared to pay....

First issue was the local "rabbit hutch" didn't have wide enough boards so I had to biscuit and glue two together....

The making out was easy enough with the original to use as templates, though cutting them out proved to be a longer task then I thought.
I then used the bobbin sander to dress the shapes and my dremel router to rounds the edges...
I'm hoping I wasn't expected to paint them as well as they are being delivered tomorrow as is.
All in all they came out pretty well; I've done a template for myself but it'll have to wait.

    Cheers, crowie

PS - Apologies for the "phoney photos".....

I'm with you on the painting, one of my pet hates. Looks like the original was made from MDF so yours should handle any outside use better.
Did you cut them all out on the bandsaw?

Thanks Dallas, I don't mind the painting but I'm sure the bloke don't want to pay me to do the painting when he can spend the hours required...
AND YES.. I rough cut the shapes on the bandsaw before doing the final shaping on the bobbin sander...

Great job they are going to look great once they get into place does he already have a sleigh. When I have to produce multiple pieces I start with the pattern and rough cut the rest then use a router bit with a bearing and run that around the edge.

Yes that's what I do too. Just use one of these flush trim bits or a pattern bit which has the bearing on the other end.

    Flush trim bit.JPG
Makes the job nice and quick as you don't have to be real precise on the cutting out with the bandsaw, and almost no cleaning up of the edge is required.

Thank you Derek & Dallas, I hadn't thought of using my router like that especially when I had the original to use as a pattern... I live and learn; thanks gents, Cheers, Peter

Nice work Crowie, do you just use a small sanding bobbin in your dremmel for rounding the edges?
