    Default More Wooden Toys

I've posted a few comments up to now but have not shown any of my work.
I started off just before Christmas 2011 by making a jeep from a picture I saw on the net. Then I made a wooden train from a free pattern off of the web. I notice that it's very similar to the Norman Marshall model. Then I made a semi trailer, using Aschi's pattern for his WA ore mover, but just using a flat bed trailer instead of the big ore trucks. Today I finished another jeep as my daughter said that our grandson, Saxon, is just starting to get into pushing toys about.

I also attend a "Toys Workshop" every Tuesday morning in my local suburb, Clarence Park. The organistaion has been going for over 30 years now and is now affiliated with the Men's Shed organisation. As the name suggests, it's all about making and repairing toys, mostly for toy libraries. I have decided to make some of the trains for the workshop to sell at Christmas time so have two more of the locos on the way now.

Here are some shots of the toys that I've made. The finish could be better, but after all, these are for the kids to play with. I started off by coating them with Estapol but now just give them a coating of olive oil (bloody good Extra Virgin Kangaroo Island Olive Oil I might add!). It's certainly not toxic.
    Cheers
    Peter

    Default Absolutely Great Work

    Absolutely Great Work, Peter.
You have surely done a very good job on those toys.
I love the truck & trailer you've made, it looks great and I'll have to find that plan you mentioned.
Let us know if you need any help with inspiration [ie plans] as I have saved a whole stack of "free off the internet"; for you Christmas toy making effort.
Just drop me an email or "pm".
    Thank you for sharing them.
    Cheers, crowie

Well done Peter. Im sure the little boys and girls who receive these toys will have hours of fun. The Prime mover looks fantastic. I also like the Jeep. Can't wait to see what you build next.

Thanks for those very encouraging comments guys. This time I have attached a photo of the rocking horse (alright, it was originally supposed to be a rocking mule) that I made for my granddaughters last Christmas. On countback, I think I have now made about nine of these now over the years. They aren't a patch on those of Wongo but the kids and the adults, love them. The trouble is the timber for those big rockers now costs a fortune. Oh well, I only have three more to make now so that each of our four children have one in their families.
    Cheers

    Default High Cost of Timber

    G'Day Peter,
You mentioned the high cost of good timber.
Apologies if you are already doing this.
Don't forget the recycle / demolition yards as a timber source.
Mostly good quality timber at very reasonable prices.

    Red face Magnificent Rocking Mule

    Hi Peter,
I am an absolute novice but have admired this Rocking mule for many years after I once i saw one at a garage sale and wasnt quick enough to snap it up.
I finally found the pattern to purchase and have finally put it into metric and just getting idea for timber. Yes the rockers will be an investment! I was wondering in your pic, have you made it to the original pattern or have you extended the legs a bit. Looks like good height. The leather ears look good. Like you said Id like that adults can also have a sit. Thanks for any ideas as I endeavour on No. one Rocking mule. Nine or more is amazing!
    cheers Bronwyn

G'day Bronwyn and welcome to the wonderful world of toymaking..
May I suggest you send either or both a "PM' and an "email" direct to Peter as he hasn't been on the forum for a fortnight.
