    Default Dot from Melbourne :)

    Hello everybody,

My (nick)name is Dot. I live in the outer suburbs of Melbourne and am in my early twenties. I looked for an Aussie woodworking forum to join so I could get more information about woodworks as well as assistance from actual wood workers. Came across this one after a very brief tapatalk forum search.

I was first introduced to woodworking way back when I was in year 8. We had an awesome woodworks teacher and woodworking was great fun. Although we only had a semester worth of classes, we all managed to make our own racing cars, trinket boxes, pencil holders, small chest drawer sets and I think that was it. I remember my teacher telling me towards the end of semester that I was one of the best people he'd seen with the burner thing that you use to burn patterns onto wood (sorry, don't know what it's called).

So basically, I really miss all that. At the moment I know nothing about patterns, tools, wood (!) and am hoping that if I hang around here for a while I can slowly get into the gist of things. I aim to be able to have the relevant tools and materials soon to build my own baby high chair or change table.

    Cheers,

    Dot.

    Welcome,
Don't know where you are in Melbourne but there are plenty of woodwork clubs and mens sheds where you can go and use their tools.

Pyrography is the burning thing and there is a forum subject here for that stuff as well.

Thanks _fly_, I'm in the south east. What's a men's shed, are only men allowed? Are there many (or any) sheds/clubs with some women? Ta.

Yes they let women play in their "mens" sheds too. I go to the Knox Wood Workers in Ferntree Gully. Quite a few women there doing all manner of things.

Dot if you hang around here for a while you will discover more then just woodworking.

You will discover the meaning of life. Well at least the theory.
