    Question G'day all

    Hi,

I'm from UK. Don't know much about woodwork!

I have a new(ish) light oak coffee table with a wax finish that I spilt nail varnish on (yup, that was not a good move )

Have sanded back the affected area and applied some light wood polish which initally looked OK but now the affected areas are the wrong colour; tried re-sanding and using a basic wax to fill the grain: still the wrong colour: can't get that lovely honey colour to match the rest of the table.

    Any ideas???

All help most gratefully received as am gutted, can't keep hiding the blemishes under coasters!!

    Cheers

    Thumbs up

G'day foxy doc and welcome to our fountain of knowledge.

You have a real problem on your hands. My guess is that the reaction beyween the wax and the nail varnish has created an indelible stain that has soaked into the timber.

Try posting in the finishing and restoration forums. You will probably get more help there.

    Wink Re: G'day

    Hi,

thanks for your reply, not sure it has cheered me up much !!

Actually, it's not just where the nail varnish went, it's anywhere I sanded. I'm gonna try cleaning it with white spirit (as per advice from local DIY store) , then sanding, then I have bought some light oak wood dye to try to restore the colour.

Will let you know how I get on, keep your fingers crossed for me!!

    Cheers

Welcome to the forum. There is a wealth of knowledge here. I am sure someone might have done something like that in the past.
