Default G'day also from Brisbane, trying to carve a cup

Hi all. I stumbled across this forum looking up what type of wood I can carve myself a cup from, like a kuksa cup. I've never carved anything before so I don't know what type of chunk of wood to start with and if it's safe for daily use or if it's going to slowly poison me to death haha.

having looked through the forum and now I'm even more confused, so many threads, so many sub forums, much confusion.

hi and thanks for any replies!

G'Day & Welcome to a top forum "Toquinho".
There are a stack of members in Brisbane and across S.E. Queensland plus the rest of the country.....
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [Work In Progress] photos with build notes.
    Enjoy the forum.
    Enjoy your woodwork...
    Cheers crowie

    Welcome to the forum.

It is a very large site and the link that Crowie had posted gives you a starting place. As you are carving this cup it might be best to ask a similar question in the carving sub-forum.
