    Default G'day from Bundy waters

    At last, a website/forum which understands the Aussie language.

    As can be seen in the title, I'm a Bundy boy and yes, I was recently flooded. Matter of fact, our old 1950's built shop was on the news, so I reckon it's had the 15 seconds of fame thing. Mind you, I don't know what I was thinking when buying a property on Water Street in a known flood zone. But eh, the price was right at the time.

    The shop has accomodation attached to the rear, but received near 2m of floodwater inside and the Sparkies from ERGON refused to turn the power back on. However we were fortunate to have a besser block workshop beside the house section and the power is on there. The workshop is fully plumbed with a dunny.shower room and a granny flat like sink and laundry tub.

    My interest in these forums will be everything from renovating the shop/house to the worse case scenario of a rebuild. Depends on the decision our insurers come to and the payout figure. Fortunately we are fully covered having a mortgage with Westpac.

    Currently we live in the workshop and I've run a 15A power lead to the house for setting up a work area in the former lounge/dining rooms. Although a flash-flood we had time to shift a few loads, like bedding, clothes, fridge and freezer on the trayback and some of my power tools. Cheers all.

    G'Day Bundy Al,
    Welcome to a top forum full of very helpful ladies & blokes alike.
    If you're going to fix up your house & shop,
    I believe that this forum has a "sister forum" for renovators;
    so 2 for the price of one.
    Keep dry and enjoy the water views while they last.
    Cheers, Crowie

    Default Renovation

    Yes, I see that as extras and checked the page out. Brilliant, all the jobs I need to know about and have never made a mistake with because I've never neeeded the skills, lol. Going to be very useful to the missus and I.

    After hastly removing the carpets post-flood, we ripped up the floor coverings in house earlier this week and discovered the remains of a termite attack in the shop entry floorboards. The blighters got in through the verandah which has the support posts sitting in the ground without antcaps. This and an additional rear bathroom/laundry were added in the 80's. Reckon it was not a qualified job by any stretch of the imagination.

    I'm used to swinging a wrench around vehicles and am adept at airbrush murals. Taught myself to weld and shape metal and am a reasonably fast learner. Although I admire many items fashioned from timber, my past experiences at fabricating in the medium are rather poor. But I reckon it'll be like any other skill, the right tools and knowledge in their use plus patience and a lot of practice.

    Not good to hear that you were flooded and I am getting from the writing that you are feeling ok at giving it a go to fix.

    Welcome to the forum.

    One thing thou I thought the saying was 15minutes of frame.
