    Default Gday from Canberra

    Hi everyone,
My name is Murray (40yo) and I just joined as I was looking for advice on toy making.
One of the things my wife and I try to do each year is make something for the kids for christmas. In the past I have had access to my father in laws cabinet making workshop but as he is now 2 years into a 6 month around Australia trip I have had to make do with what I've got. I was able to "borrow" his scroll saw and drop saw (sadly not his good combination one) before he packed up his workshop. Tools I do have are a drill press, table saw and some hand tools.
The list of tools for toy making made for interesting reading and I think I will need to upgrade the ones I have to better quality ones.
This year the project is to make a castle for my son (5yo).
Past projects include a toy kitchen using an old tv cabinet and a play frame. We also have a swing set in the backyard built with the father in laws help, so while not a noob, I am still fairly rough sawn when it comes to wood working.
I will try to post pics in the pic posting place so keep an eye out.

Hi Murray! Good luck with your project. Did you get your username inspired by recent weather around Canberra?

    Hi Murray,
If you want access to a workshop accompanied by lots of helpful advice the the ACT Woodguild is might be worth joining. They have facilities at Kambah which is handy if you live nearby. I am a member but unfortunately the shed's location is not that close so I haven't used the excellent facilities often. However several members do a lot of toy making so you could get a lot of advice if you desired. They also are a good source of timber as well as they source, mill and dry their own.
