Default G'day g'day, and how ya goin?

Hi all, I signed up here a while ago and have slowly been looking round the site...there's a lot to read!

I live in Brisbane, originally from the UK, and have always had a big interest in working with wood, though not much time or proper skills to do much that I would care to show anyone! Functional but not beautiful I think sums up a lot of my stuff. I am definitely on the amateur end, but not a novice. I have recently built some large speaker cabinets of which I am quite proud (I'll post some pictures later if anyone is interested), and have recently been thinking more and more that I should really pursue my love of wood and tools and aquire some skills to go with my passion.

Would anyone be able to recommend a good place to start in Brisbane, i.e. a good general word working course? I guess I am unsure at this point quite which direction I want to head. Somewhere in between carpentry and joinery I suppose. I have a huge box of old hand tools I inherited from my father that I would also relly like to learn to use properly. I'll post some pictures of these too sometime! There's a bit of stuff in there I have no idea of the purpose for, and many others, such as a whole collection of different planes, that I know the use of (such as, er, planing), but not the specific function (for example some have a shape that suggests they may be specifically for door jambs or something!). I guess ideally I would love to find someone in Brisbane who also loves old hand tools who would be interested in taking a look and perhaps teaching me how to use them.

Any suggestions or offers would be most welome. I am of course willing to pay to learn.

Thanks, I look forward to delving further into this lovey site!

Welcome JL, very funky colours the colour of music. I'm sure you'll enjoy the forum.

    Thumbs up

G'day JL and welcome to the madness!!!

Just guard those old handtools very carefully - there are some darksiders lurking hereabouts.

Welcome aboard JL; speaker looks good. Nice and colourful.
    Reality is no background music.

Welcome to the forum. Ah the joy of wood working. Should really say the joy of creating because that is what you have done.
