Default G'day from Germany, I love wooden hand planes.

Hello fellow woodworkers! I have recently found my passion for woodworking and have quickly felt the pull of the many paths to follow while using this beautiful, highly moldable, and versatile resource we call wood

Due to my limitations in financial resources and somewhat special gift of patience I have quickly become interested in working with hand tools while starting my woodworking ventures. I was given a couple really nice wood hand planes that were pretty beat up and am in the process of restoring them to a highly tuned state in hopes of utilizing a sharp blade and well adjusted plane to make what some may see as cumbersome work easy and enjoyable. I guess I've also been intrigued by the amazing complexity in these seemingly simple tools. Though I have access to a friend who has amazing skills in creating beautiful highly efficient wood hand planes he is quite busy so I'm looking for other resources on line to learn more about wood planes and woodworking in general (Visit his site and Fine Furniture and Hand Tools| Wood plane, Wood smoothing plane, wood jack plane, wood block plane, hand plane, Artisan woodworking, furniture, hand tools, bookshelf, dresser, jewelry box, handmade, wood,). I've already learned many different types of planes and there uses but have little info on what each of these plans do that the other ones don't or why so many different types are needed. I would be really interested in any information anyone would like to offer no matter how trivial (I'd rather relearn something I already know that not learn something I don't know). Thanks for reading my post and I look forward to meeting many of you.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

    Welcome to the forum.

As you have started with hand tools to do your wood working I might suggest that you take a look at the hand tool sub forum and post questions in there regarding your wooden planes restore. You might want to do a work in progress.
