    Default G'Day from Hobart

Architect by training - computer software developer (mainly for Architects) by trade. Been making furniture and bits and pieces for years - with Drill & JigSaw level technology. Now have a "long-term" project to build a sea-kayak using cove & bead strips. Have had to gear up a bit for this as I'm cutting the strips myself - have built a 2-in-1 table with a router and circular saw built in to do the stripping. The strongback and forms are all sitting there waiting for the strips. Started 5 years ago - so that's what I mean by "long-term". Renewed push to get it done now. Family go ho-hum when I talk about it. They don't think they'll ever see it. Have visions of my body being pushed out to sea in it when I die... )

    Thumbs up

G'day Vonkprop and welcome to the world of the perfectionists!

No point rushing these projects if perfection is whar you seek.

    Hi Vonkprop. Welcome!
I once built a little sailboat with the help of two pals who were general contractors and owned a fully equipped and stocked carpenters shop. It was called an "Ookpik" and I had purchased the mast and plans when they offered to help. I believe my only contribution was to pour the drinks and we finished all the woodwork in one evening.
Everything went too fast for me to learn anything but I think that it started my interest in wood and why I eventually landed on this site.
My Ookpik is long gone so I may have to get disposed of in a more conventional way.
    Good luck with your project.

    Default H from upriver

How's the kayak coming along??? I'm building Geodesic Airolites - www.gaboats.com - and am interested in doing a kayak with the same technique. So I'm interested in all sorts of kayak plans and what works best. I'm at Otago Bay if you're in the area - 0488420002 will find me.
