G'day from Newcastle

Hi my names rob and working with timber is in my blood, my dad was a shipwright and builder, my great grandad was carpenter my great uncles were timber fellers and barn builders , our first relative in oz was married to a freed convict who was and Australian Cedar feller and my two sons are apprentices in our building company that I started in 1990.
We restore heratige buildings in Newcastle and the lower hunter.
I've just got my workshop back in order after years of it being used as a general dumping ground for my kids bikes, surfboards,skate ramps etc.
But I stood up to them and have reclaimed my mancave and am going to sit in it and watch tele, drink beer, spin stories with my mates , look lovingly at he new tools ive just bought and old ones i have inherited and ponder on what things I can create " one day"
Hope I can be of assistance and I'm sure I will learn a lot from the many knowledgable members never too old to learn.
Oh well off for a surf to wake me up.

Nice to see another Novacastrian come into the forum we have a few. Quite a family history there sheds are great even better with photos so we can all drool.

Welcome aboard. As Wheelinround said, there are several Novocastrians on the forum. Hope you enjoy the site and I envy your work with heritage buildings. Although doing some turning at the moment, I have a passion for antique furniture, or making repro's.

The Woodturners of the Hunter aren't far away from you and they have a range of activities including woodturning, teaching learners to turn and charity work (especially the John Hunter Children's Hospital). There are also groups doing boxmaking, segmented turning, carving and, soon, marquetry if all goes well.

Yes Newcastle is the centre of the universe as far as wood workers go, we're all legends in our own lunch boxes
