Default G'day from Far Northern NSW :) !

Hi there and Happy Christmas! End of a strange year fast approaching...

I live out in the bush near Lismore, NSW. I've loved woodworking and have carried out woodworking projects on and off over many years. I've done a lot of heavy hardwood stuff, such as building our pole-frame family house from locally sourced eucalyptus bush poles and recycled hardwood. I get hardwood from demolition material suppliers, de-nail it, rip it, dress it with a planer-thicknesser, and then build using lots of featured timberwork, mixing and matching to show off our many beautiful local eucalyptus hardwoods - stringybark, tallowwood, bloodwood, blue gum and so on ... reds, browns, yellows, creams, whites. Very dense and durable timber, and heavy to work with, especially when it's beams over 6" x 2".

I'm keen to meet others on this forum to discuss a number of woodworking projects that I'm interested in... both large-scale and diminutive... looking forward to seeing what others are up to here.

    Cheers!

Welcome to the forum , I travel up that way Coffs harbour region few times a year and have come across bloodwood and tallowood ironbark . I'm just coming into possession of a few of these as they're common in this region so im looking forward to add a few pieces to my workbench and other workshop accessories im making currently

Would be keen to see some pics of yours of projects you've used these species in.

    Cheers.

    G'Day & Welcome to a top forum "Josh" .....
There are quite a few members on the NSW Far North Coast with a stack members around Brisbane and cross South East Queensland plus the rest of the country.....
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [Work In Progress] photos with build notes.
    Enjoy the forum.
    Enjoy your woodwork......
    Cheers crowie

    Default G’day from Sydney

    Nice part of the world.
Drove thru Lismore a few weeks back when that storm hit.
Used to live up that way in the early 70s.
Was the patternmaker at S G Whites foundry attached to his slipway where they built the trawlers in Ballina.
Still know lots of people most of them Woodies.
Sure been a lot of changes in the area, the Byron effect is most pervasive.
I can remember when Bangalow had one shop, a milk bar with a cast iron spiral staircase.
Still get up there a few times a year as my bro is in care in Murwillumbah.
We stay with a mate in Stokers Siding, can’t wait ‘till they get the railtrail going.

    Default Thanks!! :)

Thanks very much everyone, for the warm welcome.

I look forward to spending a lot more time here in the new year. Thanks for all the prompts about posting photos! I'd better trawl through all my files and see what I can rake up, or else get busy snapping again... will post some pics soon.

Yep, I can relate to a lot of that! I'm actually just near Nimbin village, on a rural acreage, but I've lived around the far north coast for decades, in different places (Lismore, The Channon, Bangalow, Mullumbimby, etc.)
