    Default Greetings from the States!

    As the title implies, greetings from the United States!

    First of all, WOW!! This is possibly the most comprehensive and expansive woodworking forum I have ever seen. I've got a ton of searching and reading to do. With that in mind, please bear with me if I happen to ask a question that has already been covered. I always search a forum high and low before posting questions, but sometimes still seem to miss a post, sometimes several, that already cover the subject. I apologize in advance for any such mistakes.

    Secondly, I have been a woodworker of some sort for my entire working life, starting 15 years ago as an odd job laborer, finding myself working with string instruments at present, and many other disciplines in between. I am currently materializing aspirations of building fine stave drums out of a home shop, as I have also been a drummer since the age of 13, and figured to combine the two skill sets, in hopes to soon be my own boss, and be free to do the work that I love.

    Looking forward to meeting people here, and sharing any knowledge I have with all of you. Now I'm gonna start digging into the wealth of knowledge here - again, WOW!!

    P.S.: I tried to edit my personal profile, to update and add some info about myself and get settled in here, but it seems that I do not yet have permission to do so. I searched through the forum rules and stickys, but couldn't seem to find an explanation for the issue. Am I missing something already?? It wouldn't be the first time!

    Welcome.

    The reason I like these forums is unlike a lot of forums where there is a lot of talking and not much listening, most of the folks on this actually pay attention and try to work out what the questions are and respond. In some cases it does make us tend towards the, as we call "being a bit of a bush lawyer" where little things are up picked on. Otherwise I'd lie to think we are pretty harmless and helpful.

    Thanks for the warm welcome, folks.

    Christos, I did receive a confirmation email prior to posting this thread. I followed the link to a page that said my account here had been activated, and to try logging in. That was when I tried to edit my profile, and was notified that I do not have permissions to do so.

    I am still in the beginning stages of making my first drum, and that has mostly consisted of buying tools for my humble home shop. I have been struggling with getting the bevel angle on my staves just right, due to the lack of a precise table saw or router table. When it comes to tools, you really do get what you pay for, and I got cheap stuff initially. So for now I am saving up to get a table saw with a greater degree of precision - meaning less runout, a flatter table top, better fence, straighter miter slots, ect - all of which have contributed to my woes. I will take some pics of the little progress I have made next time I am in the shop. I will post them in a new thread in the appropriate subforum.
