G'Day & Welcome "to the Great South Land" & to a top forum "Dirk".
Not too sure how many members from China are on the forum, BUT wow what an introduction..
Some beautiful timber woodwork, well done...
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you keep showing off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP photos with build notes.
    Enjoy the forum.
    Enjoy your woodwork.
Cheers from On Top DownUnder, crowie

    Default Chinese Paulownia

    Welcome Dirk

I used to sell Paulownia and at one stage was the forum 'expert' on this timber. The reality was far from the truth and I was reluctant to answer some inquiries due to my lack of knowledge about the timber. Perhaps you could become the Forum expert on Paulownia given that it native species of China and used very widely there.

I love your pieces. keep the photos coming.

Hi Whitewood, I know Paulownia, the timber is widely used in industry as a kind of economical material for example we use it to make a former mould for fiberglassing in our factory, and it is also famous as a traditional medicine. But we don' t wanna to use the timber in construction especially something delicate because the timber is not good enough and we have many other timbers much better to make the choice in china.
So, the timber I used in my photos is "Dalbergia odorifera"(I looked up the name on the Internet, we call it Huang Hua Li in Chinese), it's native and it is a kind of specie as precious as panda I like discuss with you, hopefully my words can make sense.

Oh my god Tea lady, what you are saying makes me shame. There are countless excellent woodworker in China, but most of them can not speak English, carpenter is a kind of people paying a lot but getting a lower pay in China, and people sometimes look down upon them, that's the truth.

    Welcome.

There are quite a few here that would love to get their hands on what's called "common" in China. We consider them exotics!

The same with us for you... Our common timbers must be rare there too.

Perhaps we can arange a swap!
