Default Greetings from Levin, New Zealand

Stumbled across this forum looking for info on uses of camelia - have an old (40 years or so) tree that needs to be removed as it blocks winter sun and needed to know what I could do with it. I have been an occasional woodworker for many years, have built some furniture and joinery for my grand-kids wendy houses and one of my homes. Only recently started turning so consider myself a real newby at it. Cross the ditch and visit Aus every couple of years but spent several years in NSW in the 1960's.

G’day and welcome to a top forum Chris.
You’ll find a heap of knowledge and helpful folk here.
Make sure you show off your handiwork with lots of photos and build notes.
    Enjoy your woodwork.
Cheers from the big island across the ditch, crowie

Welcome Chris. A great country you come from with lots of spectacular scenery. Seems quite a few people come to Aust for a few years and then go back home again as you did.
Turning is something that really gets you in once you start to get the hang of it and are able to produce something that you think is acceptable. Just remember to keep the chisels sharp and they will reward you with a nice smooth finish. Hopefully you have someone who is experienced around you to set you on the right path from the start, if not, try to find someone or a club to ensure it is an enjoyable experience.
