Default New guy- just bought a Japanese saw today! The dangerous stuff starts tomorrow.

    Hi.
I can't say I don't have experience with saws and chisels being a site carpenter/ wood-butcher for thirty odd years.
In that time I've inevitably done some joinery but seldom proper bench based work.

Anyway- I need to expand my hobbies and why not start with something that at least I have a slight foot in the door already.

If any kind members can help me with some of the fancy joints and furniture I've become inspired to make then I possibly can help with info on some of the boring site carpentry stuff that I've done over the years.

Also: I did my apprenticeship in New Zealand (1990s) then UK 6 years and OZ since 2006 so I've been lucky to get some different perspectives and techniques.

Anyway, hi and thanks in advance!

    Thanks for the welcome Bushmiller.

Yes! Never actually had a VDP badged car but I've had a few (admitidly slightly tired) Daimlers and Jags.
I think the Vanden Plas badge was just that in later years- Top of the line Jags sold in America carried the badge as did some very forgettable British Leyland transportation.

Anyway its the PTY name I chose for my little carpentry company.

    Also.
Forgot to put an actual name to the handle-
Daren Jensen or Dazza this side of the Tasman!

Also- I wanted to raise some discussion on a leg system I would like to attempt for a side table project.
I have a nice round marble top (500dia) and some left over spotted gum from a job-
I'm looking at a 3-legged, slender, angled and intertwined arrangement which I have seen described as a Chidori Joint.

I suspect there are some here who know of this.

There is a great YT video where the guy knocks up a nice small scale joint- this at least gives the setout which is good.
I'm thinking however to investigate with acute angles rather than 45 deg angles so the whole structure is more narrow and upright to suit the desired look.

Anyway, I'm planning to have a few test goes at the basic joint this weekend. Will post something if I get any sort of half decent result.

    Cheers!
