    Default Hello from Finland

    Hello
They encourage new members to say hello in this section so here I am.

I think I am fairly close to qualify as a jack of all trades. Carpenter and joiner and certified construction engineer. My life has a tendency to repeatedly take unexpected and potentially disastrous turns which I have so far always found a way to sort out. Though the path is winding and I have ended up with a rather strange combination of skills and lack of skills along the road.
For instance I have done quite a bit of traditional log house carpentry, made quite a few custom window frames, poured my own white metal bearings, welded cast iron, and rewound a burned out electrical motor....... but I am totally unable to varnish anything with a result that even the most forgiving customer would accept.

I am a Finland Swede from Österbotten. Not a Finn....... there is some very significant difference..... though most of the Finns are nice people too.
I think in Swedish and write in English so if I write something offending or stupid this might be just a wee misshap in the translation department....... or it may just be a streak of inherent stupidity coming through.......

I came to this forum primarily to get some help with my dust collector build. Though I have a well known tendency to get pulled into interesting discussions so who knows how this will turn out.

Welcome to the Forum, and your English is excellent. Better than many Aussies I know!

This Forum has some excellent information on dust collection, and I believe better information than many other sources around the world. Only this week I have seen several reputable sources pushing 100mm (4in) pipework as all that you need and 1 HP collectors as adequate for most home sheds, when a quick review here will give you a much better understanding.

Hope you enjoy the forum and I am sure we will be interested in some learnings from your experiences.

    Regards

    Bauldy

    Hej Heimlaga
Welcome to the forums. I've been to Sweden on several occasions (business trips) and once to Finland, but never to Österbotten unfortunately.
I googled Österbotten and found that it is one of two Finnish regions that speak Swedish.
Unlike Finland, we don't have any region that speaks a non-English language. However, we do have many languages spoken privately at home, e.g., Mandarin, Vietnamese, Italian, Greek, Kiwi and the various languages of our first people.
We have dust extraction expertise here on the forum, and they are always happy to help.
Finally, don't forget to show us your Nordic works of art.

G'Day & Welcome to the Great Southern Land and to a top forum.....
There are quite a few members from Europe and many from the UK plus of course the rest of the world.....
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [Work In Progress] photos with build notes.
    Enjoy the forum.
    Enjoy your woodwork...
Cheers from On Top DownUnder, crowie

PS - Visited Helsinki in 2015 for a World Gymnastics Display event.... beautiful country in your summer; couldn't get used to 11pm sunsets!
