    Default Hello and Orientation

    Hi everyone!

Sam here, Always loved woodworking in school. Made a few things/project like a redgum slab coffee table for a mates wedding presen and a Jewellery box for god-daughter out of Jarrah floor boards.

I've found myself here searching google: maybe this is a good exercise to orientate myself on this site: I'm wanting to put some hardwood; maybe ironbark or jarrah boards onto my ute tray.... So far the plan is find some suitable screws I can screw straight into the aluminium tray, coat with danish oil and maybe epoxy or something hardy over the top to protect the timber...

Anyways I've tried searching in the search bar for similar threads but nothing came up on my initial search. Is there another way I can find a similar thread? or how do I start my own and find the correct place to post it?

    Thanks everyone,

    Cheers

    Welcome.

google is a much better search engine for these forums

Insert any search terms, plus "site:woodworkforums.com/"
This will restrict the search to the woodworkforums

You can even search within a specific forum.
To do that go to the specific forum and then look at the URL, and you will see a number appended to that forum's URL
eg the "Bandsaws" forum is https://www.woodworkforums.com/f27
So, to search the "Bandsaws forum only
Insert into Google any search terms, plus "site:www.woodworkforums.com/f27"

G'Day & Welcome to a top forum "Sam".
There are quite a good few members around Adelaide plus the rest of the country.....
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [Work In Progress] photos with build notes.
    Enjoy the forum.
    Enjoy your woodwork......
    Cheers crowie

PS - Even simple google search using "woodwork forum" as part of the search parameters should help.....

    Hi Sam,
Welcome to the forum. Like you, I loved woodworking at school. A lifetime and 12,000 miles later I still love woodworking and this forum is now my “school”. But more importantly it is my second family

Here you will find advice, inspiration and some of the best friends you may never meet. I cannot overstate the help, warmth and wisdom I’ve gained here. I sincerely hope you will find the same.

    Welcome to the family.

    Hey everyone!

Thanks so much for the welcome and the advice on getting started! Lots of great stuff here. Sounds like a great way to search the site and forums thank you!

I’ll orient myself and use my Ute tray project as a start 🙂.

    Cheers,

    Sam

Hi Sam and WELCOME to a TOP FORUM.
In answer to your question re the timber decking for your tray, we recently did Jarrah on a steel tray and used a decking oil to seal it before screwing it down with Stainless Steel Decking screws from the big green shed (Bunnies).
From memory we used the ones with the square drive in the head, after countersinking the Jarrah. This is just a tip, predrill the wood first, the screws didn't like drilling in the Jarrah.
