Hello from Queensland!
My love for timber and woodwork began from very young. My father's trade was a cabinetmaker and he was a manager in a plywood and particleboard factory. I also worked in 'the mill' in my school holidays and after I finished Grade 12, I worked there full-time while studying science at uni part-time. At the factory, I learned a lot about veneer grading, machining and species and qualities of cabinet timbers. From very young, I spent most of the weekend as Dad's trades assistant (1980s_TA). It's amazing how much I learned and retained decades later. My day job now is all about protecting plants from pests and diseases - or plant biosecurity.
About 5 years ago, my husband and I started to do some furniture making on the weekend. Mostly milling timbers from local suppliers and making pieces for the adult kids, and some functional plywood cabinetry for our camper, storage, pets etc. We also do a bit of CNC and resin work when it takes our fancy. Our basic gear has been great but recently we decided we wanted to step up our table saw and routing game and have invested in some SawStop and Harvey gear. Now we have more capacity, we are going to start making some furniture pieces for ourselves. I have never enjoyed my weekends so much. I'm glad to have found this forum, I look forward to learning from you all and sharing some tips.
