    Default Hi All

    Hi All, I'm Jan.
Long time tinkerer-er-er, but now looking to do more woodwork/metalwork in retirement - currently researching an el cheapo way to build a moxon vise and that brought me here, lol.
    Glad to meet y'all.
Hubby isn't thrilled about me taking up room in the garage, so I have to work smarter, not harder. Being a 5`2 woman, our current workbenches are too high, so I also gotta build a bench I can store flat by the wall - now begins the thread trawl! Wish me luck!

Hi Jan, welcome to the forum.

McJings sell quite acceptable Moxon vise hardware here--> Moxon Vice Hardware Kit

I've made one using the third option (the $85 kit) and reckon it's fine.

    Thanks Biggus -

I looked at that, but not el cheapo enough... unlike most women my age, I get unreasonably Scrooge-ish over random things, and that's one of them, plus I'm poor, just bought a bench grinder and linisher.

Luckily one of our mates is a fitter and turner - he's just offered (late yesterday) to make the hardware for me for nothing - he's got so much metal in the back of his shed. Talk about lucky, I'm jammy in spades this week.

Am thinking of a roman low bench for many things, as I can stack it against the wall - I think it will help me put my body weight behind my shoulder, as my upper body strength isn't the best.

G'Day & Welcome to a top forum "Jan"....
There are quite a good few members around Adelaide plus the rest of the country.....
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [Work In Progress] photos with build notes.
    Enjoy the forum.
    Enjoy your woodwork......
    Cheers crowie

Ah yes, "how to recognise different types of tree from quite a long way away".......that's a quite obscure bit of Python, but I've got the complete Flying Circus on DVD. Bonus points for you, you're a true Pythonite.
