    Default Hi all!

    Hi everyone,

I have just decided to get into woodworking(fancy that).

I have always loved the touch, look and smell of wood but never got around to doing anything about it. I would love some advice on what tools i should buy first and where are some good places to get some tools, I have read get the best you can afford, but would like to look at some second hand tools to start with?

Where are some good places to get timber from in Sydney?

I would love to build a workbench (european style) but is this too ambitious?

Any onther advice would be great!

    thanks

    Mark

Hi Mark and welcome to the forum. I have been away from Sydney for about 7 years now so not sure where the best place to buy timber from any more. The place that I used has closed down now. I am sure someone will be able to tell you though..
Second hand tools and machinery! I guess your best bet would be garage sales for hand tools and weekend trash and treasure markets. Larger tools such as table saws etc can be found of ebay so might be worthwhile keeping an eye out there.
Also some bargains to be had here in the "for sale" forum so keep an eye on that too. Good luck.
    Reality is no background music.
    Cheers John

    Hi Mark, welcome.
Great idea to start first with the workbench, what to do without a workbench?

Aren,t there som old wharves in Syney that are in need of demolition?

A workbench is agreat place to start. there are plenty of plans available. One of the best I have seen is an article in The Australian Wood Review about 3/4 years ago. Also some very good WIPs here in the forums and I'm sure I walking Library, alias Cliff Rogers, can provide the links.
Take note of whatt others have already said about tools.
