Default Hi there from Cape Town - South Africa

Hi everyone. I am what they term a retired senior citizen. I have nothing to do, and the hole day in which to do it - except for my woodwork tools, my camera, my fishing stuff and my caravan.

My first formal encounter with woodwork was when I went to high school in 1958. In later years as a student I earned pocket money working in a furniture factory, during which time I bought my beloved Bacho chisel set and my Yankee screwdriver. I still use most of my original Bosch Combi tools which I bought together with a Black and Decker Workmate in 1973. My first serious machine was a De Walt radial arm saw, which I quickly got rid of because I thought it was too dangerous. It did not have an auto stop, and quietly ran on for a very long time after being switched off. Without a blade guard that was an accident in the making. I later bought the Elu which is now 37 years old.

What I most enjoy about woodwork is that it occupies my mind to the extent that I think of no other nonsense and do not notice time flying by.

I just love forums like these because I learn so much from it. Unfortunately I forget things almost as fast as what I learn it, and it does not look as if it is going to get any better!

Welcome to the forum. The Black & Decker workmate you have is probably the same vintage as mine, one of my better buys, and gets used nearly every day, even if it is just as a convenient flat surface to put stuff on.

Oh, and you are not alone in forgetting things!. Seems to have something to do with too many bits of information stored in your brain and the retrieval mechanism is getting worn out.

    Enjoy the shavings,

    Alan...

Welcome to the forum Loafing. Your pastimes that take up your day sound ideal to me, you have time to be creative and time to relax.
Lots of things to see and learn on here but don't get too caught up and forget to do your own thing.
