    Default Hi from Melbourne

Hi - I am semi retired and planning for time for woodworking once we get into our new house in Marysville, country Vic, later this year. I have some tools, including some from my grandfather who was a carpenter and boatbuilder in NZ in the 1900s, but they have been in boxes for the last 15 years while my wife and I went sailing. Some things have been lost to rust! Especially my skills. I’m joining the forum to learn from the skilled and helpful members - looking forward to it.

    Welcome

What areas did you sail? Congrats on setting up a home in such a magnificent area!

    Default Hi

Thanks guys. Adam we are really happy to be able to set up in Marysville, the peace and quiet is so lovely. We bought our boat in the US, sailed in the Caribbean, then crossed the Atlantic and cruised around the Med. Then we continued east, through the Red Sea, Asia and back to Oz. About 10years of it, and as the hard sailing really only started once we were back in Oz, that was enough! Are you a sailor Adam?

Welcome to the forum JR from NZ. Don't be too quick to write off those rusty tools. Take a look at some of the tool restoration posts first.

Woah!! What a dream!! Sounds incredible

I'm not a sailor yet but maybe one day. I've chatted with a few people that sailed for a few years and it seems like a great way to experience the world. I'm looking into working on ships atm so who knows!

Enjoy the dry and solid land!

    Default Hi

Thanks again everyone, from NZ too. Got to come clean and admit I am a kiwi, I lived in Wellington for 20 years, and now have been a naturalised Aussie for about the same time. We sailed under a New Zealand flag .. I will access the tools area, as I do have questions. Adam you will sail if thats your desire - I found my dreams became reality when I married a “planning” woman! We found it wasn’t the sailing itself that thrilled us, it was the travel to fantastic places, and having our home along with us, made it very convenient.

A project I completed in 2003 was a 6m sailboat - I will post a pic if anyone is interested.

    Jeff
