    Default Hi, from a newby member from rural Victoria....

    Hi all

    My name is Tanya I live just out of Daylesford in rural Victoria. I have a small workshop in the bush, which is a constant work in progress... I have questions and hopefully some of my experiences -good and bad - may be of use also?

    I discovered this forum while researching a Band Saw. Which brings me to my question/s...

    I have narrowed it down to two Bandsaws which I believe would meet my needs:

    The Hammer N4400 (Austria): I get the impression that this is solid, simple, no nonsense machine. From the Felder group, though the more economical version. I'm off to view this machine today...

    The Laguna LT 14" SUV (Chinese): I love some of the features, two dust ports, the drift master fence, the ceramic guides. I get the general impression that once you get the machine set up correctly, its a very good machine. Not sure of the build quality and am unable to view in Melbourne.

    Just wondering if anyone had any strong thoughts on either or both of these machines and or knew where I could view one of the Laguna Band Saws?

    Hi Tanya,
    Welcome to the forum. Its one of the best forums online I rekon, Ive been using it since 2004 and is very useful, I'm surprised no one else has replied to you. If you copy and paste your question about the band saw into the appropriate section people will probably help you. I'm no expert on bandsaws I just have a carbatec 14". I think there is a section on the forum especially for bandsaws or maybe post it in the machine section and you should get plenty of advice.
    Just look up the index at the start of the forum, its grown bigger and bigger over the years so it can be hard to find the right section sometimes.

    All the best setting up your new workshop, it can be tricky in the bush to get supplies etc but thats why this forum is so useful for us in the bush.

    Hi Tanya.
    I have a 14" Toolmac from Gasweld. It does what I ask it to do but it doesn't really like breaking down logs. If the timber has a flat face, that really helps, and it will cut through 100mm thick hardwood albeit slowly.
    I have never studied the subject but others have. If you do a search that may turn info up for you or have a look in the bandsaw section on the Forum.
    Don't forget the photos. We all love the photos.
    Just do it!

    You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
    Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP photos with build notes.
