    Default Hi from Western Australia

After occasionally browsing these forums for a few years, I have finally joined.

I began old-school, hand tool woodworking three or four years ago after watching Paul Sellers videos and thinking "I can do that."

As a result, I "accidentally" became a collector of vintage tools . Every once in a while I find a tool I can't identify, can't figure out a purpose for or don't know how to restore or use... and that's when I end up here.

So so now I can ask questions.

    Hi Andy

There are many others of a like mind in Perth. My advice is to join the Fine Woodwork Association, which is a club which meets every second Monday evening of a month. We have prepared discussions, Show-and-Tell, tool sales etc.

The next meeting is the 8th March:

This will be held at the Melville Wood Turners hall in the Kardinya Community Centre, Morris Buzzacott Reserve, Cnr Prescott Drive and Williamson Rd, Kardinya WA 6163

    From the newsletter:

This month we have a presentation on how to make a beautiful Damascus steel knife. Dave and Dale are members of the Manning Men’s shed and are seriously hooked on all the different skills required in knife making including the forging of the blades and decorative woodwork, bone or even leather for the handles.

So, come along and have a look at the complete process and the different types they have made as I am sure you will find it remarkably interesting.

There will also be the usual “Show, Tell and Ask” session so please bring along suitable items for a brief presentation. If you have such items, please see Carolyn Ellis before the commencement of the meeting so that time can be allocated to include them in the programme.

This meeting will be held on Monday 8th March 2021, at the Melville Wood Turners in Kardinya. The meeting will start at 7:00PM and conclude at 9:00PM with the venue will be available from 6:30PM.

    Regards from Perth

    Derek

G'Day & Welcome to a top forum "Andy".....
There are quite a few members in Perth and across West.....
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [Work In Progress] photos with build notes.
    Enjoy the forum.
    Enjoy your woodwork..
    Cheers crowie

Thanks Derek. I'm in Mt Barker, about 4 hours south of Perth, so may not make the next meeting
