Now I want to mill timber
Hi, I have been working with timber as a hobby since I was a kid in primary school. Best effort to date is the fit-out of our kitchen with jarrah slab benchtops and and a jarrah/radiata and cypress pine mix for the cupboards etc. I just like everything about timber. I live in the SW of WA on a bush block and have access to jarrah, casuarina and marri from the remnant area plus a host of other trees I have grown.
Since attending the Australian Forest Growers pre-conference tour last month in Tasmania, I now want to get into small-scale timber milling.
I have got questions and that's why I am here

Feel free to ask questions here especially if it is about local timbers and milling conditions but for a much wider range of advice and experience I recommend visiting the Arborist Site, especially the small timber milling forum, Milling & Saw Mills | Arboristsite.com If you intend using a chainsaw in the milling process the CS Milling 101 Stick at the top of that forum has a lot of info.

I am pretty new here, but have been milling those timbers mentioned for quite a while. Happy to answer any questions as best I can. Are you looking at dimensional timber or craftwood (slab style)?

Thanks for the welcome everybody.
I'm not sure what we'll be milling, the size of the timber will probably dictate what we can saw out of it. I have been eyeing off a sheoak in the front yard that I think would make some really interesting natural-edged shelves and I'm sure we can get a couple of decent lengths out of it.
I'd like to make some display cabinets for rock collections, make some built-in cupboards and get into some finer timber construction.
First of all we have got to get the saw fixed up. Hopefully we'll get our act together by the new year.
I am sure we will need a lot of help between now and the first cut
