    Holes have threads(BSA??)

    Not sure what it is but it is a made by William Marples and sons and the emblem is the Shamrock for their brand. They were well known brand of tools and plenty of interest in them. If you Google William Marples and Sons or Shamrock brand tools you will find some useful information on the company. They were very popular tools in the 1930's.
    The business was foundered in 1828 and was very successful over the years. It was eventually sold in 1962 to W Ridgeway and Sons. but is now owned by Irwin Industrial Tool Company.

    Now, how do you use them. The only thing I can think of apart from sizing a screw is to drive a screw through the plate and then snap off any extra length if the screw is too long. The snapped edge could then be sanded or filed flat while still in the plate.
    Those were the droids I was looking for.

    Default Mystery tool

    This piece of equipment is called a thread plate. It was used to clean up damaged threads on a selection of bolts. In an emergency thet could even form a new thread.
