    Default Another Newbie

Hi all from Little Hampton in central Victoria,

Have been dabbling with woodworking for some time now and have finally after many years been able to convert a part of an old Victorian house which sits on our property into a proper work shed complete with an open fire and roof that only rarely leaks in a few known areas which I will get to repairing one day.

Have slowly been building up my tool inventory over many years and due to some fortunate circumstances have found myself in a position in which I have a bit of spare time to take things to the next level...not Tattslotto or anything like that just the departure of dependant kids and no more school fees etc.

This means upgrading some of my my equipment so I can do things properly, I know a bad workman blames their tools however without the right tools is hard to do a project well and think I can really benifit from the expertise that exists on this forum.

Have bowsed this forum for a while now and the level of freely given advice and experience shared is fantastic and am really looking forward to contributing where I can and recieving advice where I need it.

    Cheers,

    Rudy

Welcome. There are certainly lots of knowledgeable people here. I too have a Victorian house, but as a wood novice, haven't felt up to repairing anything yet. Got a pig piece of rotten fascia that needs replacement, and just found a rotten floor joist that I'm hoping is not bloody termites.

Welcome Rudy. I know the feeling when that last one finishes school and cash is freed up a bit. Like you are looking forward to, it gives you that little bit more freedom to purchase a few things you have longed for over the years.
Look forward to seeing some of your projects. Is the Victorian house what you live in or is it an extra building on your property that you can utilise for a cosy workshop?
Nice part of the world you live in.

    Hi Dallas,

Apologies for the late response and thanks for the welcome, is a nice part of the world however have just emerged from the shed, is just shy of 10.00 pm and approaching -2 degrees outside and is only slightly warmer in the shed. The shed has been fashioned from the original 1880's farmhouse on the property which hasn't been lived in since the 1960's and has been the subject of much bush carpentry over the years to convert it into more of a farm building/shed than house however the original house is still mostly visble and has a facinating history to go with it. Am slowly replacing the weather board cladding and roofing and am generally working to make it warmer and dryer so will hopefully mean I can spend more time in there in the colder months and also stop my tools etc from rusting up.

And yes the spare funds from slowly moving towards empty nester status has been welcome although as you probably know it never really stops, am now dealing with first cars...milestone birthdays etc and have come to realise the money tap never really turns off.

    Cheers,

    Rudy

Dead right but it feels good being able to help.

Yes it does, just bought my sons first car though, he has contributed a fair amount and was very realistic in his expectation however the normal parent instinct to want to get the safest possible car has meant that the bank balance has taken another blow on top of my recent toll purchases
