I have a couple of SS bench planes (but decided to go for Carter, Falcon and Pope for patriotoc reasons (also found better iron and steel in them)).

However, I have and love using the following Records:

    #45C
    #50C
    #311 3-in-1 shoulder plane
    #2506 rebate shoulder plane
    #722 small router plane

(ie I like the Records that Stanley never made)
    Cheers

One of the best Hand Plane ever made in Australia was The Turner one great Plane made in the 1960's they were taken over by Stanley. I find with the Cater and FalconPope The iron will not keep its edge like the Turner or Record, You should see about getting a Turner and you will see what I am saying, Record made a number of Planes of there own design like the No 040, No 043 Plough Planes, The best Record Plane were made from 1930 to early 1940's

i too am patriotic but apart from the Turner especially with the E.A.Berg iron the Pope and carter are not in the same leaque as Stanley and Record. The only reason Aust started making planes was due to an embargo on inports after the war.I have restored all types of planes and found the Carter and Pope to have a rough casting and the carter iron was only tempered 1" up the blade.
As far as Record ,splitting hairs here the planes you have are no 045c,no 050c 2506 side rabbet plane. There is a good site at the moment which explains all about record

If I sell, Dave, I will let you know. But it is unlikely.
The #2506 is the S with the fence.
One curiosity that I have is a clamp for the #45c which says "No 44C". AFAIK there was no 44c.

Thanks Dave - looks like there had been some "bastardisation" going on with what is mainly a 45c. Oh well, still works very nicely, so its a keeper in my collection of planes to use.
