    Default Reporting A-board from Melbourne

Hi guys, have been browsing these forums for a while and have picked up some invaluable advice and knowledge regarding setting up - it never ceases to amaze me (a) the depth and breadth of knowledge of members and (b) how happy to impart said knowledge you all are! A really friendly and supportive community, and one I'm proud to be a member thereof! I have only been in Aus a relatively short time so its good to have a resource like this available... Thanks guys, I look forward to Learning!

G'Day & welcome Needles to the good ship woodwork forums,
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgable blokes & ladies on the forum all very willing to assist.
Make sure you showoff your handiwork as everyone loves a photo especially seeing WIP photos with build notes.
    Enjoy your woodwork.
    Enjoy the forum.
    Cheers, crowie

Welcome from me too. So where were you before this? And what wood things are you going to make?

Hey guys n gals, thanks for the warm welcome!
Originally from the UK, moved here... well, it's just over two years, now that I think about it.
I am lucky enough to have dual citizenship (my mum was an Aussie), and always wanted to make the move but it was one of those 'maybe next year' type jobbies... until I met the lady who would be voted Minister for Domestic Affairs (turns out she's a dictator-for-life) who was/is a native Melburnian... and now I find myself living twelve thousand-odd miles from the old roots.

I'm still not entirely sure the direction my woodworking is going to take (one of the reasons I joined this forum!); the only stuff I've done in the past is really functional (read: not pretty, butt joints, screws etc), making a no-frills media-centre back in London, a planter (well, more of a pot-container as then I didn't have to waterproof it!) etc.
I am an osteopath by trade, so really enjoy using my hands; and I love having a Project - I suspect I will tend towards items that are practical rather than purely decorative (i.e. more towards furniture than sculpture) and, at least until space becomes less of an issue, smaller rather than grand.

I have fairly recently completed that Classic, the spice rack, for the MfDA, I was actually quietly impressed by my hand-cut dados (nowt but a chisel and a steel rule!) - I mean, they were pretty crappy, but a good Learning Experience!

Next on the agenda is a bench seat-cum-storage box thingy for outside, our old bench (hard rubbish collection freebie) is finally giving up the ghost (over a year, I might point out, after someone else decided it had to go!). Again, hardly a fine wood-working project, but given my lack of tools/space I feel an appropriate level!

Soon I shall be hopefully (a) getting a few more essential tools (I actually have a block plane on order from Jim Davey after reading through a few pertinent threads on here, need to get a router, circ saw and sander next, I reckon) (b) moving out of this tiny townhouse to somewhere with a shed (!), which will be necessary so the noise etc. doesn't totally kill what has so far been an extremely positive response from the MfDA! Once that happens (hopefully within the next few months) I will also need to start construction on a decent workbench (currently on a foldaway cheap steel frame-and-MDF jobbie from the big green shed, which is less than ideal!)...

So big plans! We shall see how many of them come to fruition...

Thanks again for the warm welcome, I look forward to picking all of your brains...
